Top Tips for Comfortable Camping

The word “camping” for some people conjures images of mosquito swatting and morning backaches, while for others, images of serenity and relaxation. Camping does not have to be uncomfortable. It can be a wonderful experience for all with the right knowledge and preparation. Here are a few tips to make your next camping trip more comfortable.

Nothing does more to lift the spirits than a good night sleep. Sleeping well however can be a challenge when camping. The trick to a peaceful slumber under the stars is to mimic your bed at home. An air mattress is the first step to creating your perfect camping bed. They are inexpensive, easy to set up, and can be rolled up for easy storage during the day. Next, forget the sleeping bag, opt for your favorite pillow and blanket from home. By doing this, you will be sure to get a sound nights sleep and be ready the next day for all the activities you have planned.

Eating tops the list as the favorite activity in the campsite. Although hot dogs and hamburgers are standard camping fare, nearly any food cooked at home can be cooked in camp. The trick is to do as much preparation at home as possible. Precut your portions and wrap them individually for fast preparation. You can also precook your meals and then place them in individual pie tins. The tins can be used to heat your food over a fire or propane stove. Just imagine enjoying Duck a L’orange while sipping a glass of wine and watching the sunset. It is possible; all it takes is a little thought and preparation.

Flying pests are a nuisance that we can live without while camping. Although you will never be able to alleviate them, you can minimize them. Be sure to keep the tent-flap closed at all times and make sure there are no holes in the screens. If there are holes then patch them. Apply your mosquito spray often and liberally. When applying, be sure to spray your clothing and all exposed areas. Never spray your face directly; spray your hands and then apply to your face. Do not forget to spray your hair. Lastly, hang your lanterns up on a stand and away from the eating area and tent. Flying insects are attracted to the light. This will ensure they are flying away from your camp area. These tips will ensure a nearly bug-free camping experience.

Camping is a wonderful and relaxing activity for the prepared camper. Be prepared by making a list, double-checking it, and putting these tips into action on your next trip. Every minute spent preparing will doubtless bring you hours of comfortable campsite living.
